The Musical Box Museum further down Telok Ayer street was the main reason why we were in this area...

the admission ticket came with a section of a song - only if we buy the $38 instrument that can play the punched sheet... nopx... we didnt buy it... not worth it just to listen to a fraction of an unknown song... wahahaha
Thankful for the compulsory 40 minute museum tour by the museum staff, Angie... Learnt a bit on the history of Musical Box, in awe with the construction of each & every one on display and was 陶醉 in the melodies that were played...
the inside of a 1st generation musical box... (about 150 years old)
the interaction between the spikes and the teeth of the comb is the reason for the melodies...
the spikes were attached on one by one mainly by women while other parts were all handmade by men... and to make ONE musical box at the very very beginning required a team of craftsmen and craftswomen 1 to 3 years... made us think how rich the buyers of these 1st generation musical boxes were lo...

we even got the chance to 'play' a few of the musical boxes on display... it's a skill to play them well cos it needs the 'player' to use a CONSTANT SPEED to turn the handle to ensure that the melody is played out as it should be...

this great-great-grandfather level (1st generation) jukebox required the requester ONE GOLD COIN to play ONE song then...
the museum had it modified so i had the chance to 'tong' a penny in for a song... =D
then mx 'tong' a silverish coin to play the 2nd generation of jukebox....
really very interesting to see the disk move up based on the song that was selected
each disk contains one song
made in Singapore... hmmm.... no comments...

Super thankful, super grateful and super paiseh towards Ai Rin for the birthday love she gifted me... she is one person that makes me wonder how on earth did she have such a big heart to love so many people with her thoughtfulness, sweetness, time & effort on top of being a super busy teacher in school and a mother of a pre-schooler...
first she left these on my table...
i was awe that she could find the time in her busy schedule to make me this bead coaster with the icon that i used to represent myself since sec sch days and the effort to do the calligraphy writings on the box...
i was shocked beyond words when i opened and saw the content in the box and after reading the note she wrote...
the beads cactus on the top was hand-sewn with lots of love from her... amidst this super busy & stressful period where she had to mad revise with her classes of PSLE Science pupils, finish setting SA2 paper, ra-ra-ing an e-waste school program for the entire school and the many many more stuff she's involved in in school...
then she appeared with this slice of cake for me... OMG !!! she even squeezed out her precious time to go buy this cake for me... 我真的感动到想哭 !
Thank You Ai Rin !!! I must have done something super duper right in this life, last life, any life to deserve you as a fellow teaching farrerean !!!
an anonymous colleague gifted this box of love after hearing me cough & cough & cough some more the day before... =P
and this box of love was supposed to be huishan's breakfast from the serviced apartment she is currently staying at but it didn't match her poor + selective appetite so my tummy 赚到 lo... tasted quite good after i heated it up in the microwave... =)

these newly hatched 'ga-ga' on the window caught the attention of J & J and they spent a good 10 minutes exterminating them with sprays of insecticides before we could start our lesson....
spent the rest of the day either on the sofa or in bed with the pups to let my back have a good good rest... 4 weeks of back pain liao... i really hope it's not slipped disc... =S

was excited when i read the news that all teachers will be receiving a set of Soaper 5 stamps...
looking at them, i think they are just for keep hor ???
today was the only day this week that i could go home straight after school at 1.30pm... quick quick packed lunch home to enjoy.. =)

19 - 20 September (Weekend)
even though i 乖乖 ate my medicine and did the stretching exercises 'prescribed' by the doctor, my back pain felt worse... googled and read that most muscle strains will take 4-6 weeks to heal... oh my 天 !!! means still have to suffer for another one week +/-

after many many experimentation in different sleeping & sitting positions, i discovered that the most comfy position for me now is sitting super upright against the back of the sofa and placing a cushion on the curve of the lower back... i even took a 2 hrs nap in this position... =D
i also found out that a combi of cough syrup and the stronger painkiller for severe pain made me 'floaty'... i thought i was 灵魂出窍-ing and i felt so tall... the drowsiness/ hallucination made my feet looked so far away when i looked down at them... wahahaha...

brownie's squishy feet were right in front of my face this morning... =S
lower back has been aching badly since 3 Tuesdays ago... i couldnt bend, couldnt sit up from bed without support, couldnt carry snowie & brownie without feeling the pain in my back... i credited it to me getting older...
it only drawn on me that it might not be just a backache when i couldnt sit longer than 15 minutes on my staff room chair on Monday without feeling a sore sensation running down my right leg... the right leg was also having pins and needles sensation so frequently and easily that i had to keep fidgeting in my seat while i worked on my laptop these two weeks... =S
to make better worse, i have been sneezing because of the cold weather these few mornings... and with every sneeze, there's a sharp pain on my lower back... it was non-stop sneezing this morning, the pain was unbearable... so to the doc i went cos i could foresee that i can't do my LC duty which requires me to sit as still as possible for 40 minutes so as not to distract the candidates... =S
besides 2 strengths of painkillers, doc also gave me a month supply of vitamin B12 and a list of exercises to do... hahahaha...
hopefully the pain will go away within the next 3 weeks else doc says i will need to do xray &/or MRI ... OMG !!! i really feel so unhealthy and old...
'collaborated' with Yuan's and CY's kiddos to make birthday card #15 & #16 out of 20 for the residents @ welfare home...

learnt a magic trick at today's Resilience Program for my kids... heee... i can use it to amuse my art class when i want to introduce a famous artwork next time... wahahaha...
two consecutive long days at work this week... somemore no happy food in school cos my usual food order-ers were both not in school... so i rewarded myself with my favourite buttermilk chicken upsize meal for dinner...
i felt old and happy pairing my Mac meal with a cup of HOT TEA....
i felt even older as i listened to Teresa Deng's songs while i worked on Character's Day SLS package...

while the rest came later at 330pm as they had to accommodate to their kiddos' weekend classes timing...

this fb memory popped up... i was once busy, efficient and involved in many departments' work ... so glad, i retired from that kind of work life... in contrast, i managed to clear all necessary work before the hols and got to really enjoy this round of hols... =P
today's my turn to accompany mummy to Yishun Community Hospital for her routine check-up...

doctor's name turned mummy into a giggling puff... to the extend that i had to give her warning to control her giggles while in the room... =S
Alvin came to join us and we had dinner at Aone after the doctor's consultation...
seeing that she was so serious at looking through the menu, we waited very patiently for her to tell us her choice...
she closed the menu after flipping it from cover to cover TWICE and said ... "随便"... 😅😅😅

bcos i refused to pay for the $40 ridiculously exorbitant delivery charge, i travelled all the way from hougang to Margaret Drive by train & bus
to collect the hama mini beads brooches that i ordered from MINDS Social Enterprisefor friends @ work and myself
i really did try to convince myself that i DO NOT need to go daiso... i purposely didnt bring my recycle bag out with me but but but... on the way home i thought that since i was already out and about, i might as well enjoy my happy activity cos i simply deserve it... =D
all are essential needs, especially this microwave safe glass container for Julia's chicken rice every Tuesday ... =)
the wooden organisor is also a need to further organise my craft station ... =D
tried out the ink pad to decorate the thank you messages too... =)
order thai food for dinner but i think it was too much??? too spicy???... tummy feeling unusually bloated and discomfy now... =S

the lesson with J & J gave me the momentum to check items off my to-do list after their lesson...
(1) had the faulty rubbish chute cover replaced at $288 ... no budget for zalora, shopee and daiso shopping for the month of sept liao.. =S
(2) washed laundry
(3) made arrangement for pups' grooming on Thursday and to pick up the bead brooches from MINDS on Wednesday
(4) made 32 of the 50 thank you cards requested by mx for the trainers and staff under MINDS employment and development centres...

my lower back has been aching really really terribly since Tuesday morning... sit down pain, stand up also pain, roll off the bed lagi pain, squat down stand up lagi mega pain... counterpain cream not effective at all even after 2 days of application... =S...
no craving, no appetite so snacked on chips with soft drinks the whole day... =P
