Cai mummy's slow & steady recovery in October

cai mummy was transferred to Bright Vision Community Hospital on 25 September where she will stay for the next one more or so before the maid arrives and gets trained to look after her well...

she was very happy with the family photo which i had printed for her... and i am very happy that she can indeed recognise us from the photo... =)

2 October
 she started on soft food ... yeah...
this was the menu for dinner

3 October
brought her to KTPH for her CT scan

looking at discount while waiting for her turn.... wahahaha

realised that she didnt have any shoes or slippers at Bright Vision Hospital to wear to ktph so put on my cookie monster socks for her when she got cold....

surprise of the day: Mummy started conversing in English...  her vocab include "today, tomorrow, i want you, dont have la"... a good start although she couldnt complete her sentences due to limited vocab.... jiayou mummy....

5 October

look how happy she was with her dinner... =D

7 October
 her first complete sentence since her stroke... short & sweet.... mummy said she likes me.... happiness....

9 October
made a trip to TTSH just because doc wants to use their eyes to 'LOOK AT' mum before they hold the discussion next week to access if she's still suitable to go for her op... the whole 'looking at' and explaining today's visit lasted less than 10 minutes...

seriously??? cant they ask for an update from Bright Vision Community Hospital who is monitoring mum and doing rehab and physio with mum every day?!?!?!

we were told to make another trip to TTSH after their discussion next week for another consultation... each trip cost us $60 ambulance charges and $30 hospital consultation fee.... i seriously think that today's trip is not necessary... =S

my hatchday meal with mummy @ TTSH umi sushi before her appointment

happy mummy with her chawanmushi

11 October
she chomped down the banana... i had to stop her and insist that she swallow those in her mouth first before she can take another bite... =S

she was very happy to enjoy a quarter cup of honey green tea from koi (no toppings) too ... =P

found this book in my stash of teaching resources used long long ago and brought it for cai mummy....

was happy that she was very interested in the book....  practice some of the common words with it and hope that the many pictures can help her to express herself better ...

13 October
Celebrated mine and Eng Siew's hatchday

this will always be the case when there's no smoker among us.... not complaining... heee

14 October

Being Kinder in 2019

part of the team of Be.Kind.Sg volunteers to craft 50 flower arrangements to show the community's appreciation and support for the care-givers of children with chronic illnesses in October.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
together, we arranged 40 pots of flowers for the nurses working at IMH to thank them for their hard + heart work this Nurses' Day in August.
flowers really make the day happier.... puts me in a good mood to take lots of pics... =)
presented my pot of flowers to the nurse working in ward 82
colouring
 and monthly birthday celebrations for the residents @ the home in June
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

my job as an art teacher brought me the privilege of assisting 6 of the home's residents to assemble paper quilling flowers in the aircon meeting room for a prison & home collaboration project that will be presented to a minister during kindness week 2019.

then back to the main hall to interact with the rest of the residents over colouring & sing alongs...

had passed these colouring sheets created by my Junior Art Club members as part of their VIA program to MX last month and was very happy to spot one of them bringing joy to a resident ... =)

participated in BeKindSG's Encouragement/Appreciation series with NKF to gift diy flower bouquets to support & encourage their patients on dialysis on a Saturday evening in April.

the program started with a half an hour tour at the NKF Kidney Discovery Centre led by a staff from the NKF's volunteering department. It was a very educational tour on the importance of renal care and the pain & suffering of patients who need dialysis. I strongly encourage everyone to visit. The centre is open to the public every Friday from 9am to 4pm.

next up was the flower bouquet arrangement session led by one of BeKindSG's exco-volunteers. Under her super easy step-by-step instruction, i managed to make these two bouquets to gift to 2 of the dialysis patients who were at the centre that evening... =)

Really thankful to have Be Kind SG, a Ground-Up Movement which initiates unique and out of the box 'Doing Good' programs on top of the usual volunteering programs @ homes...

To promote the message of acceptance and inclusivity of autism in this month of April (World Autism Awareness Month), Be Kind SG organised a Movie Get-together to watch the movie '光 Guang' ...

It's an amazing show which i feel that every decent human being should watch to learn how to be a part of a more inclusive and civilised society.

The show gives us a gleam into the world of a man with autism; his obsession with his passion, his single-mindedness in doing anything & everything to achieve what he set out to achieve, his way of communication and his struggles. The movie also portrays the love & responsibility, stress & frustration of his primary care-giver; his younger brother after their mother died when they were both still rather young.

the program was concluded with us writing appreciation and 加油 cards which will be presented to parents with autistic children during an Autism Awareness event later this month...

Claire showed interest in being involved in some volunteering work so i suggested participating in one of "Project Awareness - Share & Walk with me" weekly food distribution programs in April where her two older kiddos could come along too....

Together with 50+ volunteers, we helped to distribute rice, noodles, bottle drinks, puddings and soy sauce to families whom live in rental flats in Ang Mo Kio...
