Apartment near Nishi-shinjuku gochome subway station in Tokyo

airbnb has always been my choice for seeking accommodation for my holidays because they are usually cheaper and larger than hotels and they provide an insight on how the local lives...

criterias:
  • house all 5 of us in 1 unit
  • not more than S$250 per night (if possible)
  • near to train station
  • provide wifi access

initial plan was to find an accommodation near Tokyo station so that it would be easier for us to travel around but couldn't find any suitable ones... until i expanded my search and finally chanced upon this apartment which was stated to be mins away from shinjuku station by foot and 2 mins by train....

little did i know that the "2 mins" stated was really the time on the train... the mins spent locating the subway line, maneuvering the luggage up and down the staircases, escalators and elevators was 10000 times of that 2 mins la.... oki, i was exaggerating.... but tokyo's complicated train system with multiple subway lines and stations is enough to make me blacklist it as my holiday destination... and the 'mins' by foot, according to newer reviews was at least 20 mins and provided you know the direction very well ... argh!!!!

cut story short, it took us close to 2 hours to get from Narita airport to the apartment... =S

  • Keisei Skyliner from Narita Airport terminal 2 to Nippori @ 2470¥ (S$26.90)
  • JR Yamonote Line (inner loop) from Nippori to Shinjuku @ 200¥ (S$2.20)
  • Toei Subway Oedo Line from Shinjuku to Nishi-Shinjuku-Gochome @ 180¥ (S$2)
  • 10 mins walk from the station to the apartment

S$31.10 each just to get from the airport to the apartment and yet i heard it is still cheaper than taking the infamous japan taxi... =S

luv the humongous crab hanging just outside the station though... it lights up and wriggles when night falls.... =)
Our apartment is on the second level of the white building on the left... the host had left the key in the letter box for us...

as we had arrived during the night, the letter box we saw was the silver and black one on the right.... we couldnt open the letter box as it was locked...panic dot com.... called the host.... no answer.... leave a message.... no reply.... wriggled fingers into the box through the tiny opening and could only feel pamphlets....

until alvin said something very genius.... "Could there be another letter box???" and true enough, BEHIND the gate to the white building was this....

such a coincidence that both buildings have the same unit number lo.... haiz....

despite all the inconvenience and frustration, i was quite satisfied with the size and cleanliness of the apartment which i gotten at S$189 per night ...

the living room with the width mascot, Alvin, and the height mascot, Alfred... wahahaha

Angela and ALvin 'chopping' their sleeping area the moment we reached ...

we shifted the table out and turned this room into a bedroom for 蔡 mummy, me and Alfred ...

mummy busy with her mahjong game on her ipad while alfred was on his DS.... brings back memories of our taiwan trip in 2013....
and the amazing unique experience that the 3 of us woke up to was a 4.5 magnitude earthquake at about 6am the next morning (9 June) while the two younger one slept through it....

water saving toilet bowl... the water that is used for the next flush can be used to wash our hands....

pocket wifi provided too...but with 5 of us connected to the device, it was kind of slow....

pics taken on our way out the next morning... their attire were so coordinated...

one look can tell who is the korea drama fan, who's the hip hop guy and who is damn lousy at taking wefie ... ;P

clouds were kind of low that morning....

they sure look as if they had coordinated their outfit lo....

couldnt fit in.... so take selfie alone... ='(

no la.... where got so 可怜? especially with selfie queen around.... but gosh, i looked super sleepy (what's new lo)..... =S

that's why shades are my one and only must have accessory... =)

angela having fun taking pic of their coordinated attire too.... =)

Alvin when he realised that there was an elevator right next to the staircase where he had hurled up my enormous luggage the night before.... oopx!!!
