was with the basketball team when i did my contract teaching @ TGPS.... instead of training the kids, i was more like the maid lo....hahaha...i know nuts about the game so all i could do was help the players look after their belongings, get them water, clear their rubbish etc etc and of cos talked to the cute referees during the tournaments....hahahaha....
then i was placed in badminton cca when i first joined my current school...somehow i gave school leaders the impression that i'm damn sporty la...always put me in sports....=S.... the change finally came in my second year of teaching after i wrote in my year-end request form that i was in dance in sec and jc and hope to be in a dance cca... was really glad they started a brand new cca - modern jazz - just for me....
recruited my first batch of P4 dancers and the response was amazing... i easily gotten 30+ dancers and the dance room was forever too small for us....
the company which our school engaged was so sweet, they gave each of the girl a set of dance wear which sadly the girls had to be forced to put them on for every practice... the girls were just not comfortable in wearing such tight and girlish dance wear that in the end, all these dance wear were just kept in the metal cupboard till today.... =(
first batch of top 12 dancers who went for our first performance at east coast
bearing in mind that they are only 10 years old, had only 3 months of dance training for only once a week and most do not have any dance background before joining the cca.....
The same dance was extended for the CSTD dance competition 5 months later and we received the honourable commendable award... =)
this dance was then further extended for the International Art Festival dance competition @ Genting in november that year where they receive a silver award.... =)... super good achievement given that it was our very first year.....
but as this batch of girls went on to primary 5, many of them dropped out of the cca as they found it a strain to juggle studies and dance practices... =(
a major restructure to the core dance group and we managed to still achieve a bronze in our first attempt at SYF with the following dance
other major round of restructuring after the SYF as more and more P5 dancers were forced to give up the cca by their parents... =(
and i was left with a few P5 and many many P2s and P3s, all new to the CCA,....recruitment was only held in July but my instructor still managed to come up with something simple for this almost brand new batch of dancers...
despite all the difficulties, we managed to still receive a bronze award at the International Art Festival with the following dance in the black costume below....
but me being me was not satisfied.... not with the kids' performance but with the dance.... wanted a breakthrough.... and was getting a little disappointed with the type of dances that were being choreographed as somehow they were all not up to my expectation...they were just lacking the wow factor that i saw in the very first dance....
did many many research online, watched many many dance videos on youtube and finally i drafted my very first dance storyline for my instructor to choreograph the dance and i can finally say it one more time....i love my current dance.... heee.... but cant showcase it yet cos it's meant to be for SYF next year.....
then why this blog post right???? well, i was just being a little sentimental cos my first batch of dancers will be graduating this year, which is like in a week's time,...out of the initial 30+ recruited 3 years ago when they were in P4, only 6 of them remained till today and coming friday will be their last performance in the school and i'm really glad they enjoyed this last dance....
as much as i'm always correcting their dance moves, shouting at them to put in more energy into each and every step, yelling at them when they forgot their steps, threatening to pull them out of the performance, i'm super proud to see their progress in dance in these 3 years of training... =) ...really hope that they can continue to enjoy dance in their sec life and all the years ahead....
*special thanks to jasmine
and jiayi
for remembering all the dance steps for me so that i can fine tune them with all the dancers before all competitions and performances....
thanks also to siti
for helping to collect this and collect that.....
Not forgetting this trouble-maker, Amirah,
whose passion for dance is so big that she would turn up for all practices despite getting into all sort of nonsense that got her scolded left-right-up-down by me
my little Saifurah,
who is super shy but luv dancing so much that she still turned up for practices even when she was sick....and not forgetting to mention her mummy who is an excellent make-up artist... am really glad that her younger sister will be joining modern jazz next year.... woohoo....
zefei,
who had improved so much in her 2 years with the dance troupe... =)
Last but not least, Yani,
who just joined us this last 2 months....super powerful dancer who belonged to the malay dance troupe... should have jump over earlier... hiphop is more ur style...yeah!!!....
gonna miss the all of you so much.... hugs hugs....
