A is for Art 2012 - Making the Chair (Part 1)

The A is for Art team is back at work after the June break... =) ....I'm so glad we started the whole program early in April so that we need not plan any A is for Art activity during the June hols..... =P 

to refresh everyone's memory, this was the design created by the team of 8 designers during the last lesson... 

Mandy was 'arrowed' to draw out the leafy back of the chair on the board which was ordered at $40 from a carpenter.... 

even after flipping through all the art shop catalogue to 'look' at the various art material, the challengers insisted on using plank of wood for the chair back and the arm rest after we informed them on the 'waterproof' criteria.... 


am glad that we gave in to their request as the solid board did indeed made the seat magnificent enough for VIPs to 'sit on'... =)

she did a great job didn't she..... =) ... she even knew she had to shade the part that had to be removed.... 

the seat of the chair was painted goldenish yellow to represent the base colour of the leopard's skin


leopard, being the fastest animal, was chosen to represent the school as the kids in the team felt that our school is fast catching up with other schools in term of academic performance and other achievements... 

initially, the kids were trying their best to 'smoothen' out the paint by painting in one stroke from left to right until Maleha accidentally dabbed her brush against the table top and created a 'furry' texture.... and soon everyone agreed that dabbing a 'furry' table top would make it look more realistic.... 

while a group continued with the seat, another group started on the  leopard spots with felt paper....

~overheard Susan's explanation on her choice of colours~

"I think we should use these 2 colours (pointing to the beige and brown).... this one (beige) can represent the Chinese and this one (brown) can represent the Malay then the black can represent the Indians in our school" 

the team soon found out that specialisation was the way to go to get things done when there is more than 1 person at the job...

ending the session with a reflection where pupils could choose to write and/or draw what they did and felt for the day's activity

Some guiding questions for those who had difficulties doing their reflection:

- What was completed and what wasn't?

- What was done well and what wasn't?

- How did you feel when your suggestions were accepted or not accepted?

- How did you and your team mates come to a consensus when you had differ opinions in the beginning?
