Day 3 in North Korea - Grand People's Study House, Juche Tower, Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum

breakfast for day 3 ... so glad that i brought along a few packets of Horlicks on this trip... =)

took pics of all the different kinds of public transport on the road and all of them cost 5 North Korean won (S$0.0075) per ride regardless of distance...

Spot the smart looking traffic lady on duty...

First stop of the day - North Korea Theatre/Opera House ...

yup.... took a few pictures of the facade and off we went on a street walk

via a dark dark underpass...

it was much darker than shown in the pic.... my new phone camera is just that good at picking up light... =)

passed by an empty/abandoned/deserted hair salon.... must be part of the fake front which i heard so much about before this trip.... only to find out days later after more observation of life in this country that the salon way empty because EVERY ONE in the whole country has to be working in the day and hence NO ONE will visit a hair salon at the time we passed by so there's no reason why it should be open..

We walked to the square where we had a great view of the
Grand People's Study House

See all these spots and numbers???
They are markers for mass performances...

they have quite a few variants of cab...

The old catalogue cabinet?!?!?!

Annual report from our PUB which the library staff very proudly put it on display for us after knowing that we are from Singapore.... (-.-!!!)

In one of the 600 rooms...

the one and only person using the room  other than the librarian before we entered the room and after we exited the room... she was copying info off the screen... hmmm...

this room housed Chinese, English, Russian and one more foreign language books which i can't recall...

there was a Chinese oral examination going on in one of the other rooms but our tour guides just led us in .... like that.... hmmm ...

Partner saw that they put tone marks on the chinese characters to help them read in the correct intonation...

This huge ass library dont know built to serve who and what de lo... =S  .... except for the examination room, i saw less than 50 people walking around ...

the semi-auto lift that 'housed' a 电梯女郎

the view from the viewing area on the top floor
Hi, Juche Tower....

cleaning personnel on the other roof... this country confirms win Singapore as a cleanED country... every day everywhere, you see their people cleaning, weeding, repairing, maintaining

An emergency happened to one of our tour members and she had to be sent to the hospital....
tour guide told us that there's a hospital just for tourists.... and it's very well-equipped, clean, big and EMPTY... hmmm

The Juche Tower right opposite

while everyone else paid S$10 was up at the viewing gallery, i was happily shopping at the souvenir shop and bought these 2 books at S$8...

spotted this group of boys after their soccer practice...

was told that all these mini stalls along the roads are all state-owned too.... basically every single shop / stall / office/ factory / eatery are ALL state owned.... i guess that's what communism is all about?!?!?!?!

had my first cup noodle for lunch as i didnt want to take the risk with the pollock fish hotpot served...

bought this korean flag badge at S$2 from the souvenir counter at the restaurant... my 战利品 to represent this trip... =)

Monument to Party Founding

Arch of Triumph

a mosaic on Kim Il Sung first victory speech

the stadium where the annual Pyongyang marathon is held

TV tower which is in-charge of the 5 channels of screen entertainment in the country

Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum

Just like South Korea War Memorial Museum, war vehicles and machines that were captured are on display at the outdoor area

they also captured a ship and its crew!!!

but unlike the South, we were allowed to board this ship...

dinning area in the ship

cooking area

confession letters from all the crew ... true or forced?!?!?!... the winner said it all...

bullet marks from the arrest & try to escape exchange between the crew and the DPRK soldiers ... so many, too many.... =S

local guide explaining the route this ship and the DPRK navy took...

the blue line indicates the path of the ship which showed its first entrance into DPRK's territory the day before the capture ... then a second entrance a day later where the chase and capture happened....

the secret compartment in the ship which was believed where confidential info was tapped and sent out...

the bedroom.... i am very sure the newbie crew knocked their heads on the upper deck ever so often...

we were led on a tour inside the museum but NO pic allowed ... =S ... such a waste... so no choice had to spent S$26 on the museum catalogue
contains plentiful of pictures of the exhibits but NO explanation nor description of the WARS ... =S

I forgot who said the night was still young at 8pm after dinner and suggested a night activity (thinking it would be shopping / casino is it?!?!?!)... we were brought on a night walk in the wind to see their newest Mirae Scientist Street where the employees of the scientific institutions live!!!... totally not interested... =S ... i just wanna go back to nua on my bed after being out & about for more than 12 hours lo...

Happy was I to be back in the room to finally start on zaza's gift by 10pm... friendly fonts but abit too cheem for me to really understand completely... definitely need a second read...
